South Australian Dressage Assoc

Hatero destiny

4 March 2012

Hatero De PB ,once again performed extremely well to take 2nd place in both of the Be Active classes in the Novice and Elementary level , he was very unlucky to have not won the elementary as he got a fright when a car and float drove to close to the competiton arenas and he shot off so Heather had to turn him incurring an error of course, but he recovered well and Heather was very pleased with his consistency and constant imrovement in his training. He is starting to develop a lovely cadence and rythmn to his trot work and just has a super extension. Mare owners really should consider this stallion over their warmblood mares as he is producing very well with this cross.

Danson Destiny ridden by Angela Donaldson also had a very succesful day placing second in their Second only medium test ,improving their percentage and also placing in the elementary class. Destiny had just finished a two day clinic for the National talent futures squad along with Heather and Emporio , and had a very busy week . This generous mare sired by Donnerblitz is progressing well with Angela ,both rising up through the ranks for the first time together which is very exciting.

Our next competiton we will be heading off to Mount Gambier with Hatero DE Pb and also the King of the stables Donnerblitz. Heather is entered in the PSG / Inter 1 with Donnerblitz and the Novice/Elem with Hatero.

Emporio will star again at the Spring Dressage championships , Unfortunately for Heather this Gribaldi import has just flown through the levels with some big percentages which occur extra points with the new system ,and is out of Elementary already with the blink of an eye, so Heather will be choosing his shows carefully and just starting at one level which will be medium ,so to keep his points down

Hatero De Pb our fancy spaniard was a winner in the Be Active Elementary 3D. Danson Ricardo shines

Ashleigh Westcott Ashleigh Westcott Ashleigh Westcott

22nd February, 2012

Heather is delighted with Danson Ricardo's progress. She writes here about a day out with working pupil for Danson Dressage, Ashleigh Westcott.

"Ashleigh is just 14 years of age!! Ricardo is rising 4 years old and I was completely confident that Ricardo and Ashleigh would have a wonderful day out together. Ashleigh has written about her day out with Ricardo. He is an absolute gem, 100% safe and straight forward and would make a super young horse for a nervous adult rider or junior. He is for sale - check our sales page for more details on this gorgeous sweet gelding."

Ricardo approached his first day at Pony Club with the same laid back easy going attitude as he does everything else. He travelled like a seasoned campaigner, and then proceeded to show everyone how it was done in his dressage lesson. With half a dozen horses and ponies all around and show jumping happening in the next arena, he turned it all out and worked beautifully. He then went for a leisurely stroll around the cross contry course to cool off. Through the creek crossings, up and down the banks nothing fazes this young horse. The afternoon was Ricardo's first introduction to poles and show jumping. This proved to be quite entertaining as he figured out where to put his long legs. But it didn't take long and he was going around like he had done it all before. This horse is an absolute gem to do anything with. With his easy going and try anything attitude he will be a star in any chosen discipline.

Update on Danson Dynamite

Danson Dynamite

15th February, 2012

We received this lovey email from Cristy Patterson. Danson Dynamite is sired by Donnerblitz out of our Wunder mare. This mare is currently back in foal to Donnerblitz for a 2012 foal. This mating is producing exceptional moving youngsters with brilliant temperaments.

Hey Heather. Just thought I'd send you a quick email about how Danson Dynamite is going... Took him to a breed show at Mt Pleasant on the 5th of Feb and he came home with two 1st and a 2nd out of three classes then took him to another breed show today 12th of feb and he came home with three 2nds and a reserve champion. He has been great out just gets a little excited as most youngsters do but ties up to the float beautifully. Nothing seems to bother him which is great. Not long now and he will be getting broken very excited indeed. Thanks again for this wonderful horse :) Cristy

Donnerblitz progeny dominate awards

Danson Destiny Danson Prestige

5th February, 2012

SA State Young horse finals 2012 - there were 4 Donnerblitz horses ridden at the state finals, all bred by Heather Currie at Danson Dressage. They won the 5 year old state title, came 2nd in the 4yr old class and 2nd and 3rd in the 6 year old class. All 4 Donnerblitz progeny performed extremely well, showing above average paces. Rideablity and temperament were obvious and the comments from spectators were extremely well received. Heather was extremely proud of the Donnerblitz progeney and of what Donnerblitz is consistently producing. The riders did a great job and were beautifully presented.

Danson has 5 Donnerblitz weanlings available for sale including Danson Dominater, the full brother to the 5 year old winner. He is listed on the sales page. Don't take a chance on your next dressage horse. It is worth looking at the depth of breeding in the Danson Stallions that is producing these wonderful dressage horses.

Danson Rubinrose

Danson Rubinrose

30th January, 2012

Andrea purchased this 2 year old Rubinstern (EXP) out of Lottie from Danson early last year, her name was Danson Rubinrose. We are delighted to hear of her progress.

Hi Heather Just a quick update on "Rosie's" progress. Rosie has been to a wonderful horse handler/breaker in Penola (1/2hr from me) she spent one full day with him, and at the end of the day he was sitting on her. I took her back a couple of weeks later, and he spent a 1/2 day with her, and ended the day riding her around the round yard, this happened in Nov and I have yet to get her back to him. Yesterday I showed her at the Melb. Summer Horse show, she got 2nd in the Best Presented WB (12 entries) and 4th in the led filly 2/3yrs, she was the highest placed 2yr old (8 entries). She was very well behaved travelled over like an old pro, and ate and drank happily the whole time. A friend came with me and took some happy snaps (not fantastic) but I will forward them onto you. Her registered name is Hi-Pine Rubellite (rubellite is a rose colored semi precious gem stone) she currently measures 15.1hh. I am currently thinking about taking her to the Murray Bridge all Breed show on the 12th of Feb, will keep you posted. Cheers Andrea Riedel-Carrison

Boneo park CDI 2012

Donnerblitz

29th January, 2012

Well where do I start? I have already had a dozen emails and texts asking me what happened to Donnerblitz due to the 10% drop in marks in his results. Was he naughty? He wasn't naughty, he was very very sore and slightly lame behind. Instead of belling him out of the arena, they scored him down for being unlevel!! Difficult to know which is worse - being belled out or posting my worst ever score on Donnerblitz?

Day one The trot up and Inspection of all small tour horses. Donnerblitz was presented in front of all the international and Australian judges. As Donnerblitz trots past them all floating along beautifully, the German judge calls out "Wunderbar" which means "fabulous" in German. We are then awarded the prize(A beautiful set of silver horse earrings) for being the best horse in the trot up of small and big tour horses! Off to a great start. Wunderbar! What can go wrong from here?

On the way to Boneo Park we have to go on the ferry. As you drive onboard, it is via a slight drop where the horses can see the ocean. As we go onto the green platfrom and it drops down , Donnerblitz sees the ocean and absolutely flips out. The whole truck was rattling and shaking he was trying to get away from the scary ocean and his teamate Emporio also joins in as he thinks it must be scary if Donnerblitz is frightened. Finally they settle and onward we travel. On arriving at the showgrounds, we realize Emporio has knocked his knee and it is already extremely swollen. Donnerblitz however seems fine? The next day however Emporio is tender so the decision is made to give him inflammatories and scratch him.

Donnerblitz works in the indoor and is great! Super can't wait to compete on him. Competition day, warming up from the Prix St Georges, Donnerblitz feels slightly sluggish and not himself. As we enter the indoor he seems backed off and I think he is just a bit unsure of arena. When riding through my 4 time changes I get to number three and he just stops then continues, which is unusual for him, but I put it down to new indoor and a bit backed off and tired. Disappointing performance from us and I am really determined to come back in form for the Intermediate the next day after finishing 7th with a test full of small odd mistakes. Not once did I think maybe the soreness from his scrambling may be coming out. As he is Equissaged and wrapped and looked after like a true King and given everything possible to make him comfortable.

Day two of competition I decide I am going to give him a 5 minute warmup and go in and see if he has more energy. In the first minute I warmed him up I stopped and said to my Mum, there is something not right - he feels odd. Oh how I wish I had withdrawn then and there but they call me and in I go. The test is just survival mode. I chase him around trying to tap into my normal ride, he was just so sore I couldn't sit him to collect and made and error of course with mistakes in the changes. Wow what is wrong with us? Head down toes dragging I am devastated. I can't believe we have travelled 14 hours to perform like that. I reluctantly watch the video and Bingo, he is lame behind. The good news is he will be 100 % A-OK. After an emergency vet visit and scan, but it makes me cautious to travel my best friend and super competition horse all over Australia when this can happen. The last show we went to, the Victorian Festival was a super show where we won with a personal best score. Donnerblitz also developed colic on the way home and was rushed straight to the vets again!

What do I do? I need to travel to get to the competition to excel and develop, but do I risk my horse constantly in the process of getting him there? Unfortunately he is not a good traveller and often has muscle problems when travelling... Do I move interstate to be closer to the big shows and competitions so I don't have to travel him so far so regularly? I am a loyal SA dressage rider, so what would you do ? Susan Paix also travelled over with her lovely grey mare and had a successful show placing 6th in the Inter 11 and the Grand Prix freestyle. Susan has recently purchased the Donnerblitz son Dynamo as her next dressage partner so congrats go to Susan for keeping the SA flag flying!!

Just another day at the office!

Furstaro Hatero Danson Destiny

17th January, 2012

Danson Furstaro ridden by Angela Donaldson and owned by Danson Dressage was at his very first competition and wasn't he a gem! He placed in both of his preliminary tests and looked super elegant in the arena with his quality paces. This International frozen semen Furst Grandios gelding is for sale and will make a dressage rider a super future dressage mount. What an excellent start for this young 4 yr old gelding to make the progression with his new owner. As he matures he will certainly have a strong resemblance to his sire. He is for sale at $25,000 and is listed on our sales page.

Two Donnerblitz progeney, Danson Destiny ridden and owned by Angela Donaldson and Danson Dynamic ridden and owned by Tracey Clayton had their first start at the medium level. Both horses are showing outstanding promise to progress up through the levels. They both placed in their first start and also both placed in the elementary classes. So consisitent performances from both horses and the QUALITY was a real winner that is for sure! Danson currently has 3 stunning weanling colts and 1 outstanding weanling filly for sale by Donnerblitz. Check our sales page for pics and details on this progeny.

Hatero De PB (Imported Spanish) was ridden by Heather Currie and absolutely positively nailed the novice test. This stallion is such an active engaged correct moving stallion, good canter, good walk, super big expressive extension no loss of rythmn and accurate! Good boy Hatero! BUT not in the winnings today!! How will Hatero explain that to his teamates Donnerblitz and Emporio? (he he)

Now we are off to Boneo Park CDI event with Donnerblitz and Emporio. Donnerblitz will contest the Small tour championship CDI, which is the PSG, Intermediate 1 and the combined freestyle, and Emporio will step up a level and contest the Advanced Championship and make his debut in the Prix St George CDN. Heather is very excited about getting over to Victoria again with her boys. We will keep you updated.

Meanwhile at home on the same weekend Danson Dressage will also be represented at the State Young horse finals with the two Donnerblitz progeney, Danson Destiny in the 6 year old and the big impressive Danson Don Prestige in the 4yr old classes both ridden and owned by Angela Donaldson and bred at Danson Dressage. Tracey Clayton will also ride her Donnerblitz bred gelding also bred at Danson Dressage, Danson Dynamic in the 6year old. There will be plenty of mobile communication going on between Victoria and SA that day!! Heather reports ~ the best part about my day at the office today was that I had fun. I laughed a lot, I enjoyed riding my stallion Hatero and the weather was beautiful. So I can't complain about my days at the office. They are pretty wonderful and I am very lucky!

Heather Currie highly recommends the Prestige Venus K dressage saddle

Prestige Venus K Bonnetts

12th January, 2012

I have ridden in many many dressage saddle brands including the new Amerigo, Schumacher, Passier, Peter Horobin, Crosby and Keifer and can honestly say haven't found a better dressage saddle than the Prestige Venus K. It would have to be the most comfortable saddle to ride in, fits all three of my horses Donnerblitz, Emporio and Hatero who are all different shapes, sitting perfectly on their backs without moving. Angela also tried it on her mare, Danson Destiny and is now investing in one herself as it fit Destiny perfectly ~ Angela has been having trouble with her saddle bouncing all over her back!!

I have found that it really gives you a very centered, effective postion. The half halts are also super to ride in this saddle. The design helps you really snap those hind legs under! The Prestige has mild knee rolls (and I am normally not a fan of knee rolls!) but these are slight and effective and do not interfer with your movement in the saddle, instead helping you to maintain a correct and balanced seat. I couldn't be happier with the saddle and honestly recommend any dressage rider to have a trial on this saddle. I also love the look of it, we are in 2012 and the design and expertise in the design shows it!

Information on the Venus K ~ The tree is nylon and comes with a life time warranty, the leather is soft calfskin. They come in black or tobacco brown and have a 2 year warranty on the leather and stitching. The trees are fully adjustable by our saddlers through use of infra-red treatment to widen or narrow the trees. The Venus K is a mono flap dressage saddle that ensures you have fantastic contact with the horse and has a charming new design. The skirt is padded and the border of the flap is reinforced. The seat is particularly soft giving an excellant level of comfort. New Technical panels without stitching reduce any feeling under your leg. The new antomic knee-rolls are regular or big on request. Bonnetts Saddleworld offer them in 3 sizes being 16, 17 and 18 inch. These saddles are available for purchase at all Bonnetts Saddleworld stores. Do yourself a favour go and try one!

Happy New Year!

Donnerblitz

8th January, 2012

Happy New Year everyone! What a successful year for Danson Dressage. Another year has passed and we are looking foward to the coming year with lots of interstate and local competitions planned. Heather would like to thanks her team at Danson Dressage for the excellent effort and hard work they have put in.

Angela Donaldson, rider for Danson Dressage has now been at Danson for quite a few years, is the young horse rider at Danson and a very important part of the team. New rider, Casey Hallett, has shown incredible her enthusiasm, hard work and determination. This will pay off for you in the future Casey! Jen, our amazing stablehand, has never had a day off. Always smiling and an honest, hard working woman who does an "A-one" job of looking after our beautiful horses.

Grahame Ware for all of the work he has done with our newest import Der Von Wedel. We are looking forward to combining a successful breeding and competition career with this gorgeous stallion. Our excellent farrier Graham Ferris for his top work done on our competition horses and sales horses. We even had a comment from the Olympic team farrier on how well Donnerblitz was shod! Elizabeth Herbert and staff at the Adelaide Plains equine clinic for all of work they do for Danson and so far a very succesful pregnancy rate for next season's foals to Donnerblitz and Der Von Wedel. I am sure I could be a partner in that practice! Special thanks to Ben Loades who does an outstanding job of breaking in all of our young horses. They are all very safe and well broken when we get them back which makes an easy progression onto their dressage careers.

Extra special thanks to my new sponser Bonnetts Saddleworld and Gary Slack, their Prestige range of saddles are just outstanding and fit the horses like a glove.

Finally to our highly valued owners, Kerrie Massey, owner of Hatero De PB(IMP)and Amada (IMP) who will make her debut in 2012. Michelle Massey, owners of Assasin and Passions Skipper(IMP), Leon Berry, owner of the Emporio Van De Zwarte Molen son Evolution, and Lorraine Wohling, owner of Donnerhill. Thanks for entrusting us with your gorgeous and talented horses for training an competition we look foward to continuing this partnership. Let's all look foward to a super 2012. Can't wait!
